Willie Ben McCarty, 96, of Batesburg, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 23, at Clyde's Chapel Southern Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery with Rev. Greg Williams officiating. Active pallbearers will be Richard Waltz, Sidney Pratt, Jimmy Edwards, Carrol Caughman, Allen Oxendine, and Thomas Shealy. Mr. McCarty was born in Edgefield, SC, son of the late Bennie and Addie Mae McGee McCarty. He was married to the late Elease Enlow McCarty. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the VFW and the NRA. Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Clara Elouise Greene; Mary Helen (Ed) Hallman; sisters and brother-in-law, Lois (Dewey) Smith; Anna Gunter; brother, James F. (Fel); grandchildren, Marcia (Owens) Shealy; Kimberly (David) Chariker; Tony Greene; great grandchildren, Nic Shealy; Austin Chariker; Dakota Chariker; great great grandchildren, CheyAnn and Kylie Shealy; and very special nephew, Timothy F. Enlow. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Bill Greene; sisters, Estelle Duncan; Ernestine Norris; Addie Mae McCormick; brother, Edward McCarty; and brother-in-law, Floyd Gunter.
